Bowflex JRNY

Client: Nautilus + Digital One

Company: Supply

Role: Technology Director

Nautilus wanted to refurbish its Bowflex JRNY exercise app experience and encourage more customer engagement.

They developed a concept that gave users a personalized Fitness Score based on activity, personalized goals, and home gym equipment. Nautilus approached Supply about designing and developing a working prototype app for prolonged market testing and user research.

Concept And Design

In partnership with Digital One – Nautilus’ audio/visual production agency – Supply designed and developed the Fitness Journey concept. We extended the existing JRNY App design language to include dynamic motion graphics, updated color schemes, and a new customer journey.

A Design System for Development

Knowing we had to develop a prototype that could withstand prolonged market research rapidly, we tackled the challenge by fleshing out a durable design system that could be easily translated into Android/Kotlin. Using name color hued, design tokens, and a limited set of type styles, designers and developers were in sync from the get-go.

The design and development teams were tied at the hip throughout the project process. Each team could inform the design system and provide either customer insights or technical insights to create a more robust experience. Technologists participated in weekly design reviews to observe design intent first-hand.
